1.1 This test method covers the determination of bulk specific gravity and density of specimens of compacted asphalt mixtures. 1.2 This test method should not be used with samples that contain open or interconnecting voids or absorb more than 2.0 % of water by volume, or both, as determined in 11.3. 1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.
