This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of disinfection and disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in drinking water, chloramination and DBPs, brominated DBPs, toxicity, and theoretical isotopic abundances. The experimental method is presented, along with ion clusters detected by UPLC-ESI-MS/MS, effect of contact time on the formation of polar Br-DBPs in chloramination, comparison of polar brominated DBPs in chlorination, chloramination, and chlorination-chloramination. Presentation conclusions indicate that: many polar brominated DBPs were generated in chloramination; some of them are nitrogenous brominated DBPs; the polar brominated DBPs increased as contact time increased; more polar brominated DBPs in chloramination were generated at lower pH; and, chloramination produced more high molecular weight polar brominated DBPs than chlorination. Includes tables, figures.
