COLLEGES WANTING TO IMPROVE THEIR LABORATORY EQUIPMENT AND UPGRADE FACILITIES FACE AN ARDUOUS TREK. RAPIDLY EVOLVING TECHNOLOGY NECESSITATES UPDATED LABORATORY EQUIPMENT, YET SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES FIND IT DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT TO SPECIFY OR HOW SUCH EQUIPMENT MAY BE FINANCED. TO DEAL WITH THESE AND THEIR ACCOMPANYING SIDE-ISSUES, THIS PAPER DISCUSSES THE APPROACH TAKEN BY THE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN. THIS WORKING MODEL IS ENTERING ITS THIRD YEAR AND WILL REQUIRE ANOTHER TWO TO THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE. WHILE THE MODEL IS NOT PERFECT AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS WOULD NEED TO MODIFY IT, THUS FAR IT HAS PROVEN EFFECTIVE.
