SELF-SUPPORT OF SAG RESISTANCE IS DEFINED AND A QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT IS MADE THROUGH THE INTRODUCTION OF A NEW TEST METHOD. THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-SUPPORT IN TOOLING APPLICATIONS IS DISCUSSED BRIEFLY ALONG WITH VARIOUS PARAMETERS AFFECTING SELF-SUPPORT. THE TEST METHOD COMPARES VARIOUS COMPOSITE AND NEAT (NON-FIBER REINFORCED) EPOXY TOOLING SYSTEMS. STANDARD TEST METHODS CURRENTLY USED ARE DISCUSSED ALONG WITH ESSENTIAL PARAMETERS RELATED TO TEST METHODS INCLUDING PRECISION, REPRODUCIBILITY, VERSATILITY, EASE OF USE, AND ACCURACY COMPARED TO ACTUAL CONDITIONS.
