THIS PAPER DISCUSSES THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS INVOLVED IN THE CREATION OF A SEQUENCE OF COURSES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI. THESE COURSES ARE AT THE SENIOR ELECTIVE AND/OR BEGINNING GRADUATE STUDENT LEVEL AND REPRESENT A PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT WITH INPUT FROM INDUSTRIES AND OTHER UNIVERSITIES. THE COURSES FOCUS ON THREE MAJOR FUNCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OVERALL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS. NAMELY, THE INTEGRATION OF THE DESIGN PROCESS, THE MATERIAL SELECTION PROCESS, AND THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. AN EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON A MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE BASE THAT EACH MEMBER OF THE DESIGN TEAM SHOULD HAVE IN ORDER TO INTERFACE WITH THE OTHER TEAM MEMBERS.
